Bill & Ted Get a Retro Arcade Game, Built by Australian Studio Art of Play Interactive

A new game based on Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure is in development, and its stars are returning to voice it. The title, Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure: Arcade, was announced on 3 November 2026, according to Video Games Chronicle.
Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter, who played Bill and Ted in all three films, will provide the voices. The game is being made by Art of Play Interactive, an Australian studio. Its earlier games include Danger Mouse, Lady Death: Demonicron and The Phantom, all built in a modern take on older retro styles.
Arcade is mainly a side-scrolling beat 'em up. That is a genre where a player moves left to right, punching and kicking through waves of enemies. This one takes its look from 16-bit arcade games of the early 1990s. Players can go it alone or team up with a friend in two-player co-op, playing as Bill and Ted.
The premise follows the movies' playful tone. Players collect historical figures and then challenge them to mini-games. Winning earns respect and a place in an on-stage history report, the kind of school project the pair are famously bad at.
The studio has also said it is a strictly no generative AI operation. That covers all of its titles, including trailers and marketing materials. Generative AI refers to tools that create text, images or video from prompts.
Physical and digital releases are both planned. The game will come out on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch and PC, according to the publisher's plans reported by Video Games Chronicle. A limited run of physical editions will include a version with SNES-style packaging, a nod to the cartridge-era look.
Funding will come from a crowdfunding campaign. The campaign will run on Backerkit, a platform where fans pre-order and back projects before they are finished, and it is due to launch in early 2027. The money will help pay for the final stages of development. Backers will receive a metallic phone booth card showing Rufus, the time-travelling mentor played by George Carlin in the original movie.
A Steam store page for the game is already listed, under the Steam app ID 5359820. The page names Roditeli Productions as the publisher. No release date has been given in the announcement, so players will need to wait for an official date before planning a purchase.
For a franchise that began in 1989, a new interactive version with its original cast is a small event with a long history. The announcement leaves most details still to come, including the release date, price and the full list of playable characters.
