Opportunity Party leader Qiulae Wong has said "It makes my skin crawl" in reaction to sexist comments made by New Zealand First candidate Michael Laws. RNZ reported her reaction on 4 November 2026.

The remarks were first reported on 3 November. The New Zealand Herald reported that Laws made sexist remarks about Opportunity Party members, including Kayla Kingdon-Bebb. RNZ reported that the comments were an on-air attack against Opportunity Party women.

According to The Post, the comments were described as "creepy and misogynist". They also included commentary on the length of a dress.

Christopher Luxon condemned Laws' remarks, calling them "Stupid, absolutely stupid". Luxon also ruled Laws out as a minister because of the comments, according to The Post.

Laws is a New Zealand First candidate in the 2026 general election, which is being held under the mixed-member proportional system. Under that system, voters cast two votes, and parties that win at least 5 percent of the party vote or an electorate seat are represented in Parliament.
