Canva is cutting or relocating more than 1,200 jobs, or 22% of its global workforce, as part of a major restructure. The Guardian reported that chief executive Melanie Perkins announced the plan in an email to staff on Wednesday. The company said the restructure will affect 1,271 people.

In the email, Perkins described the restructure as "without doubt the hardest moment in our thirteen-year history" of the company. Canva's plan includes changes to the roles of some staff, and it asks some employees to relocate to centralised hubs, meaning larger shared sites where teams are grouped together. The company said the restructure focuses on "collapsing layers" in its management structure and bringing "more teams together in person."

Departing employees will receive at least six months of salary. Where workers receive healthcare coverage, those who leave will keep it for a further 12 months. Leavers can also keep their laptops, and they can apply for grants of US$10,000 (A$14,000) to start their own ventures.

The restructure follows a period of slower growth. Business Insider reported that the reorganisation came as the company's growth slowed. Earlier in 2026, according to Capital Brief, Canva had quietly cut some jobs before the wider restructure was announced.
