Korean Action Noir Tristes Tropiques Finds Buyers Across Europe and Asia

South Korean action noir Tristes Tropiques has found buyers in a long list of countries, and its home release is set for 25 November. Variety reported the latest deals on 4 November 2026.
The film is directed by Park Hoon-jung. It follows children raised inside an assassin group by Sabu, who is described as the absolute ruler of a tropical rainforest. The cast is led by Lee Sin-young, Park Yu-rim, Kim Myung-min and Park Hae-soo, with Taiwanese actors Austin Lin, Chen Yi-Wen and Wang Po-Chieh in supporting roles. It runs 107 minutes.
North America is the biggest market so far. Well Go USA has picked up the film for the United States and Canada, the same company that has released Park's The Witch films and The Childe in that region before.
Elsewhere, the buyers are spread across the map. Swift Distribution has taken French-speaking territories. Alfa Pictures will handle Spain and Andorra. Blue Swan Entertainment has acquired Italy, and Splendid Film has taken Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Media4Fun has bought Poland, while CaiChang International has Taiwan. In Asia, Multivision India has the Indian subcontinent, PT Prima Cinema Multimedia has Indonesia, and Izagur Media has Mongolia.
Most of these deals were not made with a finished film in hand. Sales companies often sell rights early, through what the trade calls pre-sales, which are agreements struck before a movie is complete. Finecut, the sales company behind the film, closed pre-sales in five territories after a short preview of footage in May, Variety reported. Finecut is now carrying the film at the American Film Market, the trade fair where sellers and buyers meet to trade rights.
Finecut is not new to Park's work. Tristes Tropiques is his fourth film with the company, after New World (2013), V.I.P (2017) and The Witch: Part 1 The Subversion (2018), according to Deadline.
The film has also been on the festival circuit. It won the Silver Raven Award in International Competition at the Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival. In September it took the top prize at the 32nd L'Etrange Festival in Paris, where it won the Grand Prix Nouveau Genre Canal+, and it was chosen to close the London Korean Film Festival. The film is described as an action noir, a crime story with a dark, moody look and a hard edge.
Gold Moon Pictures produced the film, with Studio&New as co-producer. Mindmark, the creative content studio of the Shinsegae Group, presents it. The film is a 2025 production, and a screening at the British Film Institute included a question-and-answer session with Park Hoon-jung.
For a viewer in any of these countries, the timing is the simple part to track. The Korean release arrives on 25 November, and the other territories will set their own dates as their distributors announce them.
