Former Arkansas Governor Says Democrats' Gains Are "Much More Significant Than Ever Anticipated"

Former Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson said Democrats' gains are "much more significant than ever anticipated," in an interview with National Public Radio (NPR) published on November 4, 2026. NPR
NPR's Scott Detrow spoke with Hutchinson about Democratic victories in states typically considered Republican strongholds. The interview runs about five minutes.
Hutchinson served two terms as governor of Arkansas. Before that, he was a congressman, and he helped prosecute the 1999 impeachment case against Bill Clinton, which did not succeed. In an earlier state race, Democrat Mike Beebe defeated Hutchinson for an open Arkansas governorship. Reuters
Hutchinson also ran for president in 2024. He launched that bid in April 2023 in Bentonville, the northwest Arkansas city where he was born and began his political career. He ended the campaign in January 2024, after finishing sixth in the Iowa caucuses, the first contest of the Republican nomination race. AP
