Archie Brown handed three-match ban as Fenerbahce face Liverpool

Fenerbahce defender Archie Brown has been given a three-match ban after he was sent off in a post-match brawl with Galatasaray, BBC Sport reports. Galatasaray accused the 24-year-old of physically attacking their captain, Abdulkerim Bardakci. Bardakci has also been banned, for two games, over the same fight.
The timing is hard for Fenerbahce. They play Liverpool in the Champions League today, Wednesday 4 November, with a 17:45 kick-off. The Champions League is Europe's biggest club competition, and it brings together the strongest teams from across the continent.
Brown's career has taken him a long way from where it started. He was born in Birmingham and began in West Brom's youth system before moving to Derby. He helped Derby win their only youth top-flight title. In the North v South division winners final, he scored a hat-trick in a 5-2 win over an Arsenal Under-18s side that included Bukayo Saka.
He left England at 19, joining Lausanne Sport in Switzerland in 2021. Two years later he moved to Gent in Belgium. In 2025 Fenerbahce signed him in a £7m deal, and he has since become a regular in Istanbul.
He is a versatile player. He can play at left-back, in central defence or in midfield. He has represented England at youth level, and he has named Ashley Cole, the former England left-back, as one of his inspirations.
Fenerbahce returned to the Champions League in September with a 1-1 draw against Roma. Brown scored the equaliser in that game. He has now played three Champions League matches, a total of 270 minutes, which is three full games.
The club's domestic season has been less smooth. Fenerbahce are sixth in the Super Lig, Turkey's top division, after 10 games. They are nine points behind leaders Galatasaray. Their home is the Sukru Saracoglu Stadium, which holds 48,000.
Liverpool have their own history in Istanbul. They won the 2005 Champions League final at the Ataturk Stadium in the city, the night of Istanbul's most famous comeback in the competition. Since then, though, they have lost their past five games against Turkish sides in Istanbul.
For Fenerbahce, the coming days will test a squad that is still finding its footing in Europe and at home. For Brown, the ban means time away from the pitch at a point when his club needs its defenders most. Whether he returns in time for the next big match will depend on the fixtures that follow.
