Hannah Einbinder Debuts Haley Stevens Impression After Michigan Senate Win

Hannah Einbinder has turned Michigan's Senate result into a bit. The actor and comedian debuted an impression of Haley Stevens, the Democrat who lost the party's Senate primary to Abdul El-Sayed, after El-Sayed won the general election, Deadline reported.
The tease came on Tuesday night, when Einbinder posted to Instagram Stories. She wrote that she would debut the impression if "our guys (gender neutral)" won. About fifteen hours later she posted a video from a bar doing it.
In the clip she says, "We're gonna give 'em a little bit of energy, a little bit of pow, a little bit of stick it to 'em, cos that's the Michigan way." She then reposted a graphic reading "Mazel tov, Abdul." She has described the impression as "perfect."
The race was called around 2 a.m. ET on Wednesday. El-Sayed declared victory early that day at the Michigan Democrats' headquarters in Detroit. He defeated Republican Mike Rogers, a former U.S. representative who had lost his first Senate bid in 2024, NPR reported.
El-Sayed is 42 and a former public health official. He will become America's first Muslim senator. Stevens, a sitting congresswoman, had endorsed Rogers on Sunday, days before the vote. In the same state, Democrat Jocelyn Benson won the governor's race.
Einbinder has spoken about politics in public before. At last year's Emmy Awards she said "Free Palestine" during her acceptance speech.
For anyone who follows the midterms, the mix of a Senate result and a comedy video is an unusual pairing. It is also a reminder that a single post can reach people far outside the room where a joke was first told.
Einbinder's post is a one-off social media clip. It is not a programme or a series, and it has no broadcast slot attached to it.
