A new stage version of Anne Brontë's 1848 novel The Tenant of Wildfell Hall will open at the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre in Guildford on 9 September 2027, then tour the country. The Guildford theatre and the company Shared Experience are making the show together, according to WhatsOnStage.

A co-production means two organisations share the making of a show, including the work and the cost. This is the first time the two have worked together. The play is written by Katherine Moar and directed by Joanna Read.

Press night is 14 September 2027, five days after the opening. The Guildford run ends on 18 September. The show then begins a ten-week national tour. Tickets for the Guildford run go on general sale on 6 November 2026, which is this Friday.

The tour stops at these venues:

  • Oxford Playhouse, 28 September to 2 October
  • Theatre Royal Bath, 5 to 9 October
  • Blackpool Grand Theatre, 12 to 16 October
  • Devonshire Park Theatre in Eastbourne, 19 to 23 October
  • Festival Theatre in Malvern, 16 to 20 November

Eastbourne's ticket seller lists seats from £22.50 for the 19 to 23 October run.

Brontë's novel follows a young woman who moves into the title house and finds that her new neighbour is not what he seems. It was a bold book for its day, and it still gets read in schools and book clubs. A touring production takes it to towns that may not see many dramas of this kind, so the route covers the south coast, the south-west, the north-west and the Midlands.

Touring is also how many regional theatres fill their calendars. A show that has already played Guildford arrives with its own set and cast, and the host venue sells the seats. For audiences, that means the same production can be seen close to home rather than only in London.

The tour runs into late November 2027, and the dates above are the ones announced so far. Anyone wanting seats can check the individual theatres' websites for prices and booking details.
