Jenny Groom Named Head of MGM Alternative at Amazon MGM Studios

Jenny Groom has been named Head of MGM Alternative at Amazon MGM Studios. In the job she will oversee MGM titles including "Survivor," "Shark Tank" and "The Voice." All three are unscripted shows, meaning they are built around real people, contests and competitions rather than written drama. Variety reported the appointment on 4 November 2026.
Groom will report to Jenn Levy, the studio's head of nonfiction. Levy was named head of unscripted and documentary television at Amazon MGM Studios in January. Realscreen reported that Levy had earlier worked as an unscripted executive at both Netflix and NBCUniversal.
Groom's brief is to develop new formats and series for Prime Video, Amazon's streaming service, and for outside outlets. A format is the core idea of a show, the template that can be sold and remade in other countries. Think of the rules that make a game show work, rather than any single episode.
Groom most recently served as executive vice president of unscripted development at BBC Studios, the BBC's commercial production arm. Before that, she was executive vice president of unscripted programming at NBCUniversal. Her move follows a career spent on the development side of reality and competition television.
She is scheduled to start as Head of MGM Alternative on Monday, 30 November. That is the Monday after the Thanksgiving holiday in the United States.
Reality and competition shows are made by large production teams, often working on tight schedules across many months. The executives who choose which formats move forward help decide which crews get hired next, and which ideas get the chance to become a series.
