Winston Peters has promised to deal with New Zealand First candidate Michael Laws after the election, following a sexist on-air attack on Opportunity Party women candidates.

Laws made the comments on air on 3 November. He has since unreservedly apologised for comments about the party's female candidates. Peters told him off for the remarks.

Nicola Willis, National's deputy leader, described the remarks as "disgusting" and "nasty". Prime Minister Christopher Luxon also condemned the attack. Both parties are contesting the general election, which is the vote that decides who forms the government.

Peters said on 4 November that Laws' future with New Zealand First was still to be decided. He has said he will deal with the matter after the election.

New Zealand First has announced that Laws will stand for the party in the Waitaki electorate, the single-seat constituency he would contest at the general election. He also appears on the party's team page.
