CBS Keeps the Tony Awards Through 2032

The Tony Awards will stay on CBS through 2032, after the network signed a new five-year broadcast deal with the American Theatre Wing and The Broadway League, according to Variety.
A broadcast deal is a contract that gives one television network the right to air an event. The Tony Awards are presented by the American Theatre Wing and The Broadway League, and they are produced by Tony Awards Productions, a joint venture of the two groups. CBS has carried the ceremony since 1978.
The 80th annual Tony Awards will air live on CBS at 8 p.m. Eastern time, which is 5 p.m. Pacific. The show will come from Radio City Music Hall in New York, and it will also stream on the premium tier of Paramount+, the paid top level of the streaming service that CBS's parent company runs.
The most recent ceremony, the 79th, took place on June 7, 2026, and was hosted by P!NK. CBS aired it at 8 p.m. Eastern that night, and it was also available on Paramount+. A Broadway.com guide published before the show said Pluto TV, a free streaming service paid for by advertising, would carry a free pre-show.
Among the 79th ceremony's winners, Schmigadoon! took Best Musical, and Ragtime won Best Revival of a Musical, according to the awards' official website. Arthur Miller's Death of a Salesman won Best Revival of a Play. Joe Mantello won Best Direction of a Play for that production, and John Lithgow won Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Play for Giant.
The awards cover twenty-four categories, honouring performers, directors, productions and behind-the-scenes work such as design and sound, the American Theatre Wing says on its website. Several of the special honours at the 2026 ceremony went to people who have spent decades in the theatre, including Andre Bishop, James Lapine and Jules Fisher, who each received a Special Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement.
For viewers, the practical change is simple. The ceremony stays on the same network, and the 2027 date and venue are already set. Anyone who wants to watch the 80th ceremony can find it on CBS, or on Paramount+ for the premium tier.
