A record number of candidates backed by or affiliated with the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) won federal offices in the United States midterm elections held on November 3, 2026, according to Al Jazeera.

The DSA is a left-leaning membership organization. It says it has more than 120,000 members, with chapters in all 50 states. The midterms are elections held halfway through a president's term, when voters choose the entire House of Representatives and part of the Senate. Reuters reported that Republicans lost control of Congress in the Tuesday vote.

In New York State, Claire Valdez, Darializa Avila Chevalier and Brad Lander were each elected to the House for the first time. Al Jazeera reported that all three were either endorsed by or closely affiliated with the DSA. Chevalier had worked on the mayoral campaign of Zohran Mamdani, who won the New York City mayoralty in 2025. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was re-elected to the House from New York.

Elsewhere, Rashida Tlaib was re-elected from Michigan, and Donavan McKinney was elected there for the first time. In Michigan, William Lawrence defeated a Republican candidate for a House seat. Melat Kiros was elected to represent Colorado, and Chris Rabb was elected to the House from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, for the first time.

In Los Angeles, Angela Gonzales-Torres defeated a Democratic incumbent to win a House seat. In New Jersey, Adam Hamawy won a House district. Hamawy is a former U.S. Army medical doctor who has worked as a surgeon in Gaza.

Hindustan Times reported that six DSA-backed candidates won House seats. In a statement, the DSA said five of its nationally endorsed candidates will serve in the 120th United States Congress. The organization also said that Congress will have the largest bloc of socialists it has ever seen.

According to NPR, Associated Press race calls placed the six DSA-backed House winners cited by that report in reliably Democratic districts.
