Jonathan Garson Named Pixar President as Jim Morris Moves to Emeritus Role

Pixar has a new president. Jonathan Garson takes over the top job at the Disney-owned animation studio on January 4, 2027, and Jim Morris steps into a president emeritus role.
The changes were announced by Alan Bergman, chairman of Disney Entertainment and Studios, in a Variety report dated November 5, 2026. Garson and Morris will both report to Bergman.
Morris joined Pixar in 2005. He was named president in 2014, succeeding Ed Catmull, and he led the studio for 12 of his 21 years there. Variety reports that Pixar's feature films earned more than $12 billion at the global box office during his tenure. Global means worldwide, including the United States and Canada.
Morris is not leaving the films entirely. As president emeritus, he will continue as executive producer of Incredibles 3, which is slated for theatrical release in June 2028.
Garson joined Pixar in 2010 after more than 30 years at Disney. Most recently he served as the studio's general manager. Before that, he led its marketing and franchise team, the group that sells films and builds the characters around them.
As president, Garson will oversee all production and operations. That covers the producers, the department heads, and post-production, the editing, sound and visual effects work that finishes a film. He will share leadership with Chief Creative Officer Pete Docter.
Jonas Rivera also has a bigger job. He moves into an expanded creative executive vice president role, leading filmmakers and development, which means guiding the people who write and direct Pixar's films and deciding which ideas move forward.
For a studio whose films can take years to reach cinemas, the handover is as much about the calendar as the org chart. Garson's first day in the top role comes in early 2027, while the next big title on the books, Incredibles 3, is still two and a half years from its June 2028 date.
