Dragon Ball Z Composer Elected Texas Attorney General

Nathan Johnson, the man who composed much of the music for Dragon Ball Z, has been elected attorney general of Texas. He will take office in January 2027, after beating Republican Mayes Middleton in the state's general election on 3 November 2026, according to Billboard.

The attorney general is the state's top lawyer. The office represents Texas in court and advises the state government on legal questions. Johnson is a veteran litigator, meaning a lawyer who argues cases in court, and he has served in the Texas Senate since 2019, representing Senate District 16 in Dallas County.

His other career is in music. He wrote the scores for 67 episodes of Dragon Ball Z and five of its movies. The films include The World's Strongest, The Tree of Might, Broly – Second Coming, Fusion Reborn and Wrath of the Dragon. A score is the background music that runs under the action and the emotional moments. Johnson also composed music for the English version of the show, the dub made for English-speaking audiences, according to the Dallas Observer.

He holds a bachelor's degree in physics from the University of Arizona and a law degree from the University of Texas at Austin. Johnson ran in the Democratic primary for attorney general earlier in 2026. He did not have to give up his Senate seat to make the race, and he is the Democratic nominee who went on to win the November vote.

The result means a sitting state senator and former film-and-TV composer will hold one of Texas's most senior legal jobs from January. For the fans who grew up with the show, the new attorney general's résumé now includes a long run of Saiyan battles and a few dozen hours of score.
