Harry Kane signs new Bayern Munich contract until 2029

Harry Kane has signed a new contract with Bayern Munich that keeps him at the German club until 2029. BBC Sport reported the signing on Thursday 5 November.

The deal had been on its way for weeks. In mid-October, ESPN reported, citing sources, that the striker was close to a new deal. Other outlets reported that the two sides had reached a verbal agreement to extend the contract to June 2029, with the formal paperwork to follow.

Kane was in the final year of his previous deal, which was signed for four years. A contract extension is a new agreement that adds time to a player's existing deal. Without one, a player can move on cheaply as his contract runs down, so clubs usually want to tie up their key men early.

Kane joined Bayern from Tottenham in 2023, in a move worth £86 million. He has stayed at the club since, and this new agreement means he will remain in Munich for at least two more seasons beyond the current one.

Kane is also the England captain, so the news carries weight beyond Bayern. He leads his country at international level, and he will keep doing so while he plays in Germany.

For Bayern fans, the message is simple. Their main striker is staying put, and the club has kept its most important forward for the longer term. For Kane, it means a settled base for the years ahead, and a clear answer to the question that had hung over his future since the summer.
