York Knights sign winger Andy Djeukessi on a one-year deal

York Knights have signed winger Andy Djeukessi on a one-year deal, York Knights confirmed on 5 November. The 23-year-old joins from Newcastle Thunder and will be a York player for 2027.
A winger lines up on the outside of the attack and often finishes the move. Djeukessi has a strong record at that job. BBC Sport reports that he scored 21 tries in 23 appearances for Newcastle last season. In rugby league, a try is worth four points and is scored by grounding the ball over the opponent's try line.
York have already seen him in action. He played once on loan in August, in the 34-32 win over St Helens. A loan means a player is registered to one club but spends time at another. Newcastle Thunder were York's partner club in 2026, and the match report from that game put Djeukessi in the York side.
Djeukessi came through the youth ranks at a Leeds club and later played for Castleford Tigers. His move to York also brings him back into a full-time setting, according to TotalRL.
Head coach Mark Applegarth has spoken publicly about the signing, the BBC reports. York say the deal was supported by Squad Builder, a scheme that helps clubs fund their recruitment. The club has not said how many games Djeukessi is expected to play, and the contract details beyond the length of the deal have not been released.
For York, the news is about planning ahead. Signing a player on a deal that runs into next season gives the coaching staff a known winger to build around. For Djeukessi, it gives him a full year at one club after a summer of moving between clubs and roles.
Rugby league fans can expect to see more of him in the York colours once the 2027 season begins.
