Spanish directors Paco Cabezas and Javier Ruiz Caldera shared a stage in Cádiz, talking about demanding shoots and the risks they take on screen.

The conversation, called "No Holds Barred," took place on 2 November at the South International Series Festival. It was part of the festival's Creative Talks programme, a set of sessions where filmmakers speak to audiences about their work. South Boost coordinator Alejandro Ávila moderated the discussion. The fourth edition of the festival ran from 30 October to 4 November, according to Variety.

Cabezas has worked on some well-known international productions. His credits include Netflix's Wednesday and AMC's The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon. He is also the creator of La Nena, a crime thriller, as Variety reported in October.

Ruiz Caldera has directed films in Spain's popular comedy and adventure tradition. He made Anacleto: Agente Secreto and Superlópez. The festival's official programme listed his discussion with Cabezas among its major highlights.

Among the recent Spanish titles in the news is 5 More Minutes (5 Minutos Más). It was written by Berto Romero, who also stars alongside Belén Cuesta and Javier Cámara. The film is a time-loop thriller, meaning its characters keep living through the same stretch of time again and again. It was shot in continuous takes of exactly five minutes, so each scene runs in one unbroken shot.

The production was made by El Terrat and Ikiru Films as an original for Movistar Plus, the Spanish streaming service. It premiered in competition at the San Sebastián festival, where Cámara won the Silver Shell for best supporting performance. It later took the Audience Award and a Special Jury Mention at Fantastic Fest in Austin, Texas.

Filmax handles the film's international sales, which means it negotiates the rights to show it in other countries. Filmax will release 5 More Minutes in Spanish cinemas on 22 January.

For anyone who follows Spanish screen work, the Cádiz talk offered a look at how two directors with very different catalogues approach difficult shoots.
