Jeff Burroughs Joins Jonny Shipes' GoodTalk as President

Jeff Burroughs has joined GoodTalk, the music company run by Jonny Shipes, as its president. The company confirmed the appointment on 5 November 2026, and Billboard reported it the same day.
In the new role, Burroughs will oversee expansion across GoodTalk's label, content and branding partnerships. He will also support its artist development work, the process of helping performers grow their careers over time. GoodTalk describes itself as a full-service entertainment company that works across music and brands.
Burroughs is no stranger to the marketing side of the business. He spent five years as chief marketing officer at Def Jam, the US record label. Before that he was head of commercial relationships at Syco, where he handled brand partnerships for the X Factor and America's Got Talent television franchises. A brand partnership is a deal in which a company pays to be linked with an artist or a show, often through adverts, sponsorships or products.
His earlier career also included executive roles at RCA and Bad Boy, two well-known US labels. More recently he ran his own firm, THTWRKS, for five years. The firm worked on artist partnerships for Nike, Disney and Meta.
Shipes has a long record in the business too. He founded Cinematic Music Group in 2007. In 2023 he sold that company's catalogue to Interscope, a sale that Vibe reported as an eight-figure deal. A catalogue is the back list of recordings a company owns and keeps earning money from. An eight-figure sum means at least ten million. That same year, Shipes launched GoodTalk.
The company has also been building partnerships of its own. In April 2026, Music Business Worldwide reported that Create Music Group had agreed to form a joint venture with GoodTalk. A joint venture is a shared business set up by two companies, which each put in money, people or rights.
For the artists and staff who work with GoodTalk, the appointment puts an executive with brand-partnership experience in charge of the company's growth. Brand deals can bring in income that sits alongside record sales and streaming, which is one reason the role spans music and marketing. The company's next moves will show how that plan takes shape.
