Lady Gaga, Jack White, and Blondie's Debbie Harry and Chris Stein are among the nominees for the Songwriters Hall of Fame Class of 2027, according to Pitchfork. The Hall announced the full list on November 5, 2026, in a release on its own website.

The list runs from pop and rock to country and hip-hop. It is split into two groups, and the split matters, because the Hall treats them as separate races.

The first group is the performing songwriter category, for writers who are also known for performing the songs they wrote. Shakira, P!nk and Sia are on it. So are ZZ Top's Frank Beard and Billy Gibbons, America's Gerry Beckley and Dewey Bunnell, and Boy George, Ne-Yo, Vince Gill and Grandmaster Melle Mel.

The second group is the non-performing songwriter category, for writers who are not primarily known as singers or musicians on their own records. Kandi Burruss, Stargate and Dan Wilson are the nominees in that group.

Being nominated is not the same as being inducted. The Hall selects three inductees from each category, so six people in total will join the Hall from this round, and the nominees are the pool they are chosen from. Voting for the Class of 2027 closes on December 14, and the inductees will be named after that date.

For anyone who has ever sung along to a chorus without thinking about who wrote it, the category is worth a second look. Songwriting credits are the part of a song that pays when it is played, covered or licensed for a film or advert, and the Hall exists to recognise the people who wrote those songs. A performer on stage and a writer in a studio can both be on the same list, and this year they are.
