Pamela Abdy says she is taking a break. She made her first industry appearance since leaving Warner Bros. at the Women in Film Honors at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles, where she told Variety on the red carpet that she is "chilling."

Abdy ran the studio's film division with Michael De Luca. The two held the job of co-chair and chief executive of Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group, which makes and releases the studio's films, from 2022. Variety's executive rankings placed the pair at No. 23 on its 120 Most Powerful Executives in Entertainment list in December 2025.

Their exit was reported in early October. Screen Daily reported on Oct. 2 that the pair were set to leave the studio after its merger with Paramount Skydance, a deal valued at $110 billion. Abdy and De Luca shared oversight of Warner Bros.' global theatrical production, marketing and distribution, which covers how films are made, promoted and sent to cinemas.

On the morning of Oct. 1, the Women in Film organisation named Abdy its first Vanguard Award recipient, while she was still in the job. Nancy Meyers presented her with the award at the gala. The same evening honoured Adria Arjona, Beth de Araujo, Gemma Chan and Salma Hayek Pinault.

Abdy said the break has given her time at home. She said she was able to attend every one of her daughter's volleyball games without interruption.

Asked about rumours that she and De Luca could fill the open film chief job at Netflix, she said she would tell everyone once she decides what she is doing. Netflix has not confirmed any hiring, and the rumour remains unconfirmed. Abdy said her goal, wherever she lands, is to keep working with filmmakers and storytellers.

She was also asked whether the combined company can reach its aim of releasing 30 films a year. She said she did not know, but hopes it does.

For now, the next move in her career is unannounced. Abdy has not named her next role.
