Bob Iger's Son Will Joins the Lakers' G League Broadcast Team

Will Iger, the son of former Disney chief executive Bob Iger, has been hired as the play-by-play announcer for the Coachella Valley Lakers, the Los Angeles Lakers' G League team. Deadline reported the hiring on November 6, 2026, and ESPN NBA reporter Dave McMenamin broke the news.
Play-by-play is the job of calling the action live, as it happens. The G League is the NBA's development league, where younger players and teams work toward the main league. Iger will call games for the 2026-27 season, which is the season now getting under way.
He will be paired with former Laker A.C. Green, who will provide the colour commentary, the analysis that runs alongside the play-by-play. Coachella Valley Lakers games are broadcast on Spectrum SportsNet, according to the Deadline report. Yahoo Sports also reported the appointment on November 5.
Iger is not new to the microphone. Last season he was the play-by-play announcer for the San Antonio Spurs' G League affiliate in Austin. He called those games on FanDuel Sports Network Southwest. He also did select home games for San Antonio FC, and he has worked as a commentator on the Dallas Mavericks' weekly studio show.
The Lakers connection runs through a much bigger deal. Reuters reported in August that Bob Iger and venture capitalist Joshua Kushner were set to buy the Los Angeles Lakers, in a deal valued at a record $12.5 billion. A post on X on November 5 described Bob Iger as an incoming co-owner of the team. Reuters first reported the sale plans in August.
For fans of the Coachella Valley Lakers, the change means a new voice on the broadcast. For the team, it adds a familiar name to its media lineup as the season starts. Iger's path has been local and steady: a minor-league booth in Texas, a few home games for a soccer club, and a studio chair in Dallas. Now it leads to a G League team in the California desert.
Both the hiring and the sale are now public. Coachella Valley Lakers fans will hear the first of them when the season tips off on Spectrum SportsNet.
