Toei, the Japanese studio behind the long-running Kamen Rider superhero series, has drawn up rules for generative AI, its president has said. Speaking at the Taiwan Creative Content Fest in Taipei, Yoshimura Fumio said the company has started using the technology in film and video production. Generative AI means software that creates images, video or text from written instructions.

Toei has a dedicated team testing how far AI can go in real content production. The studio is also building an AI system to help less experienced producers estimate budgets, and it is already working on creating backgrounds with AI. Its back-office departments use the tools for routine tasks, data processing and internal questions.

Yoshimura pointed to Dreams of Violets as an example of AI use. It is a 75-minute live-action feature made entirely with generative AI, and it was selected for the Tribeca Festival in June, according to Variety.

Toei is also expanding into games. Toei Games is a label, meaning a brand that groups related projects, launched this year to mark the studio's 75th anniversary. It has three titles lined up:

  • Hino, due in early 2027
  • Killa, due in spring 2027
  • Debug Nephemee, due in spring 2027

None of the three is an adaptation of a Toei property. All are original games made by outside creators. Each will launch first on Steam, the PC game storefront, before arriving on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation and Xbox.

On the animation side, Toei launched The Kamen Rider Animated in April. The new label's first project pairs Toei with the anime label Aniplex and the animation studio Shirogumi.

For the studio, the AI work and the new games cover different parts of the same job. One deals with how shows are made and costed. The other is about putting new titles in front of players. Toei's first game releases are still months away, and the dates given so far are for early and spring 2027.
