Nintendo sees remakes and brand-new games as equally important. Nate Bihldorff, the company's senior vice president of product development and publishing, said so in an interview with Polygon, as Eurogamer reported on 6 November 2026.

Bihldorff spoke at the New York City launch event for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, a remake. A remake is a new version of an older game, rebuilt for current hardware. The original was a Nintendo 64 classic. Nintendo announced the remake on 9 June 2026, saying the game would return for a new generation of consoles. It is exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2, so it does not appear on other systems.

The remarks come as the Switch 2 version of Star Fox is performing well. According to Eurogamer, it has sold 1.17 million copies worldwide since its launch earlier in 2026. That makes it the ninth best-selling game on the console. Eurogamer's headline ties the comments to the success of both Star Fox and Ocarina of Time.

Nintendo's publishing approach has long mixed fresh releases with returns to older titles. Bihldorff's comments put both kinds of game on the same footing.

The remake has also received a software update. Nintendo Life reported on 4 November 2026 that version 1.1.1 of Ocarina of Time on Switch 2 is live. A version number marks a patch, a small update that fixes problems or adds changes after release.

For players, the immediate news is simple. The remake is out on Switch 2, and its latest update is already available. Nintendo has said remakes and new games will both have a place in its lineup, and Bihldorff's interview is the clearest statement of that position so far.
