Cameras Roll on Am I The Wave?, Film Based on Francisco Goldman's Novel

Cameras are rolling on Am I The Wave?, the feature adaptation of Francisco Goldman's novel Say Her Name, according to Deadline, which reported the start of filming on 6 November 2026. Filming means the cameras are recording the scenes that will make up the finished movie.
Manuel García-Rulfo and Renata Vaca lead the cast. Alejandra Márquez Abella is directing, and she wrote the screenplay with Scott B. Smith and Goldman himself.
The film is in English and is set between Brooklyn and Mexico City. It takes its inspiration from Goldman's real-life romance with Mexican writer Aura Estrada, which also sits behind the novel.
The producers are Juan de Dios Larraín of Fabula Films, William Horberg of Wonderful Films, and Zak Kilberg.
Money for the film came together through several routes. UTA Independent Film Group arranged the financing and will handle the domestic sale, meaning the rights to release the film in the United States and Canada. FilmNation Entertainment is handling sales for the rest of the world, which means selling the right to show the film in cinemas and on television or streaming services in other countries.
Public support also helped make the film possible. A grant from EFICINE, Mexico's federal film fund, and a tax credit from the State of Jalisco and its tourism board came into the budget. A tax credit is a reduction in tax owed, and governments often offer them to bring filming, and the spending that comes with it, to their region.
For a general reader, the path from a book to a film is a chain of decisions. A writer's novel becomes a screenplay, a director and cast are signed, money is raised from investors and public funds, and sales agents line up buyers in each market. Each link is made by people, and this one has now reached the shoot.
The report did not set out a release date, so audiences will have to wait for the next announcement from the filmmakers and sales team.
