Alejandro Edda and Nick Stahl head the cast of One Night In Purgatory, an indie horror film, according to Variety, which reported the casting on 6 November 2026.

The film is the debut feature from writer-director Robert Husted. It also stars Grace Dove and Michelle Mylett.

Stahl plays a rogue archangel. Edda plays a lawyer who is weighed down by guilt. The story begins with the archangel holding one night on Earth. In that time he has to convince the lawyer to represent him at a trial against God and the Devil. The action moves into a grungy dive bar, where the archangel ends up.

Production has recently wrapped in Calgary, the Canadian city in Alberta. Shooting in a single location, or a handful of them, is a common way for a low-budget film to keep costs under control.

The electronic band Tangerine Dream wrote the score, which is the original music that runs under a film's scenes. Pairing a film with a well-known band is a familiar move in horror, where music does much of the work of building tension.

Several producers are credited. Chris Lorusso, Mike Hatton under his Ton of Hats banner, and Stuart Davis are producers, along with Kyle Cooper and James Hausler of Beauregard Pictures. Producers handle the day-to-day making of a film, from schedules to crew.

Edda and Stahl are also executive producers, alongside Michael Walker and Jason Wan-Lim of Polyscope Pictures. Executive producers usually take a hand in financing and business deals, rather than the daily shoot. Having two of the film's leads in that role means they have a stake beyond their on-screen work.

For anyone following independent horror, the mix here is worth noting. A first-time director, a cast with recognisable names, a score from a band and a Canadian shoot all sit under one title. The film's path to cinemas or streaming has not been announced, so that part of the story is still to come.
