Richard Lloyd, Guitarist and Co-Founder of Television, Dies at 75

Richard Lloyd, co-founder and guitarist of the band Television, died on Saturday morning at his home in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He was 75.
His family told Rolling Stone that he died from cholangiocarcinoma, a cancer of the bile ducts. Those are the tubes that carry bile, a digestive fluid, from the liver to the small intestine.
Lloyd was diagnosed with the disease in March 2026, when he was 74. Tumours formed in his liver. One of them sat so close to a major blood vessel that doctors could not operate to remove it.
In August, a fundraising page was set up to support Lloyd and his family after the diagnosis. It was organised by Sean, a friend of Lloyd's and the bassist in the Richard Lloyd Group, and was reported by USA Today at the time.
His wife, Sheila, and his dog, Willie Mays, were with him at the end, according to the family's statement.
Lloyd was born on 25 October 1951 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He played guitar in Television, the band he co-founded, and went on to lead his own groups.
Anyone who wants to mark his death can follow the family's lead and keep his bandmates, his friends and his wife in mind in the coming weeks.
