Three people from Gloucester, aged 17 to 19, are in police custody for questioning over a suspected sword attack that injured a 17-year-old near a school in the city.

Police were called to Chalford Road in Tuffley shortly after 8:50am on Friday, 6 November. The road runs close to St Peter's high school. According to the police account reported by The Guardian, two people, one of them holding a sword, were reported to have chased two 17-year-olds. One of the teenagers sustained a superficial wound that is believed to have been caused by the sword. The other was not physically injured.

St Peter's high school and Willow primary academy were placed on lockdown, a security measure that keeps people inside a building while the danger is assessed. Armed police attended the scene to search for the suspects.

Arrests followed over the next day. A 19-year-old was arrested overnight. An 18-year-old handed himself in on Saturday morning, 7 November. A 17-year-old boy was arrested later that day. Gloucestershire Police said the 17-year-old was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. All three remain in custody for questioning.

A woman arrested on Friday on suspicion of assisting an offender was released on police bail while inquiries continue.

Gloucestershire Police issued an appeal for witnesses and information about what it called a serious incident in Tuffley. Officers have not said what charges, if any, the arrested people may face.
