Chelsea drew 1-1 with Everton at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, and their lead lasted only a few minutes. Sandy Baltimore put Chelsea ahead, steering the ball home from a header by Lucy Bronze that came back across goal. Then Bronze turned the ball into her own net in the 33rd minute, an own goal meaning a player puts the ball past their own keeper by accident, and Everton were level.

Chelsea's equaliser came almost straight after they had taken the lead, so the home crowd went from celebrating to silent in the space of a few moments. The match was a Women's Super League game, the top flight of women's football in England. Chelsea FC published an official match report on the game.

The point leaves Chelsea in second place in the table. Manchester City moved to the top after Chelsea were held, as Reuters reported. For Everton, the draw is a useful result away from home, and it keeps them in the chase for the upper part of the league.

Chelsea's head coach, Sonia Bompastor, was frustrated after the game. Her post-match comments, published on the club's website under the headline "We were not clinical or ruthless enough", pointed to the chances her side failed to convert. Being clinical means finishing the chances you create, and being ruthless means pressing an advantage until the game is over. Chelsea's Erin Cuthbert also spoke afterwards, saying there would be a reaction from the squad.

Chelsea have a week to reset before the next round of fixtures, and they will be keen to show that a draw at home does not define their season. Everton, who now have a point from a game they might have lost, will feel rather better about a long afternoon in west London.
