House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries said on November 8 that he is a "hard yes" on an impeachment resolution targeting Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. Speaking on ABC's This Week, Jeffries said Hegseth "has got to go," accusing him of abusing his power, undermining national security and engineering a war in Iran.

Impeachment is the process by which the House of Representatives formally charges a federal official with misconduct. A resolution is the proposal that sets those charges in motion. Kentucky Republican Rep. Thomas Massie plans to reintroduce an impeachment resolution against Hegseth as soon as Monday. Jeffries said he supports Massie in his efforts to impeach the defense secretary, according to NBC News.

The measure includes eight articles of impeachment, which are the separate charges within a resolution. One of them accuses Hegseth of violating the War Powers Resolution of 1973, a law that governs when a president can commit military forces to armed conflict without congressional approval.

Jeffries said House Democrats will discuss the Hegseth resolution on Tuesday morning, when lawmakers return to Washington after the midterm elections. The Guardian reported his remarks on the timing.

President Donald Trump has not endorsed a change at the Pentagon. He said he was not considering replacing Hegseth, saying, "he's doing a very good job."
