Once its maximum sustained winds hit 40 mph, the system will be named Tropical Storm Bertha — the second named storm of the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season.

Tropical Depression Two formed in the Gulf on July 19, 2026. The NHC has since issued a storm surge watch from the Alabama-Florida border westward to the mouth of the Mississippi River in Louisiana. A tropical storm watch extends from the Ochlockonee River in Florida's Big Bend region westward to the line separating Jefferson and Plaquemines parishes in Louisiana. Both watches were newly issued with Advisory Number 5.

A storm surge watch, as defined by the NHC, signals a risk of life-threatening coastal flooding from rising water moving inland within 48 hours.
