Meta Brings Parental Supervision Tools to Threads

Meta announced parental supervision tools for Threads on July 21, 2026, giving parents and guardians visibility into how much time their teenagers spend on the platform and the ability to set daily time limits, block access during specific hours, and manage privacy settings through Family Center, Meta's centralized hub for parental controls across its apps (TechCrunch).
The controls allow parents to view their teen's daily time spent on Threads for the past week, including an average daily figure. Parents can set a daily time limit that applies across multiple devices, and block access on select days and hours. A sleep mode lets parents restrict or block nighttime access, with notifications muted and auto-replies enabled by default for all teens from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. Parents can also control who can tag their teen in posts, and decide whether teens under 16 are permitted to change automatic privacy and safety settings to less strict configurations.
Teens on Threads already have built-in protections, including private accounts by default and limits on the content they see. The new supervision layer adds a parental dimension to those existing safeguards.
Rollout begins in the U.S. the week of July 27, 2026. Meta plans to bring the tools globally by the end of 2026.
Threads launched in July 2023 and has grown to 500 million monthly users as of mid-2026, making it one of the largest social platforms to add parental controls after launch rather than at debut.
