Ryan Reynolds walked into Marvel's San Diego Comic-Con Hall H panel on 26 July 2026 wearing Deadpool's grey suit — a costume pulled from the X-Force comics that has never appeared on the big screen — and told the crowd his name was Ricky. The panel was there to sell Avengers: Doomsday, a Disney release scheduled to reach theatres on 18 December. Directors Anthony and Joe Russo shared the stage with Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige. Robert Downey Jr., who pivoted from playing Iron Man to starring as Doctor Doom in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, was on the panel too. Chris Evans, another Marvel veteran, is also set to appear in the film (Reuters).

Reynolds, still in character as Deadpool, turned the panel into his own show. He asked Paul Rudd, who plays Ant-Man, "Where is Thor, and why was he crying?" — a reference to a gag from Deadpool & Wolverine (2024). Rudd shot back: "He's a Wrexham fan?" — a nod to Reynolds's real-world co-ownership of Wrexham AFC, the Welsh football club. Reynolds, without breaking stride, replied: "You know goddamn well why he was crying."

Then he asked when filming on Avengers: Doomsday starts. Downey, as Doctor Doom, answered: "It's in the can, bro." Reynolds wrapped up: "No further questions. Happy Hogan, fetch the Audi. We're leaving." He dropped the microphone and walked out of Hall H.

Marvel has not officially confirmed Reynolds for the Avengers: Doomsday cast. The appearance follows a tease from August 2025, when Reynolds shared a social media post featuring a graffiti-ed Avengers logo, stoking speculation about his involvement (Deadline). Reynolds has separately confirmed at Fanatics Fest that another Deadpool film will come, though no date has been set.

The Hall H panel carried a fuller slate of Marvel announcements. Ryan Gosling was announced to star in a Ghost Rider film directed by Shawn Levy. Ryan Coogler revealed that David Jonsson will play T'Challa's adult son in Black Panther 3, which is slated for a 2028 release. Marvel also announced a player-versus-environment "Avengers: Doomsday" mode for its Avengers: Age of Ultron game, launching on 30 July (Marvel.com).

The studio's booth on the Comic-Con show floor, numbered 2329, centred on Avengers: Doomsday with costume displays and photo opportunities for attendees.

Deadpool & Wolverine, Reynolds's most recent outing in the role, surpassed $1.3 billion at the global box office — the kind of number that explains why Disney might want him back in the suit, even if nobody on the Hall H stage said so outright.

DC Studios, for its part, was also in San Diego with a major presentation for its Lanterns project, headlining against Marvel's return to Hall H (Sentinel Colorado). The convention floor had room for both.
