A memorial service for Oliver Tree — the singer, producer and internet personality born Oliver Tree Nickell — was held on Saturday, 25 July 2026, at the Quarry Amphitheater on the campus of UC Santa Cruz, six weeks after he died in a helicopter crash in Rio de Janeiro at the age of 32.

The service ran from 7:30 PM to 10:30 PM local time and was livestreamed on Tree's Twitch channel, according to The Fader. It featured live music performances, tribute videos and unreleased video content, as advertised on Tree's official Instagram account. TMZ had reported ahead of the service that it would feature celebrity speakers and multiple caskets for Tree's characters; the detail proved literal — three mannequins dressed in his signature bright windbreakers, sunglasses, cowboy hats and blunt bowl cuts were laid out in coffins in front of the stage, as Billboard confirmed.

Diplo, Logan Paul, Ethan Klein and Aaron Mercury were among those who spoke. Diplo called Tree the coolest person he had ever met. Paul delivered a eulogy that opened with a joke about Tree's hair and closed on a tender note, saying Tree was "watching us all from somewhere in the heavens" and likely "super disappointed in this production." He described Tree as "everyone's best friend" and "an adventurer with an incomparable zest for life" who had "the ultimate ability to make anyone feel seen and heard" (Billboard; Stereogum).

Tree's parents also addressed the crowd. "I think Oliver would say trust yourself, get off the couch, produce art," they said. "He was a doer" (Billboard).

All proceeds from the memorial benefited the Dr. Oliver Tree's Extremely Epic Grant for Baby Geniuses foundation, launched by the singer's estate per his will. Before his death, Tree said on the Zach Sang Show that he intended to leave his wealth to emerging artists rather than his family (Billboard).

Tree, a native of Santa Cruz born on 29 June 1993, released four major-label studio albums through Atlantic Records: Ugly Is Beautiful (2020), Cowboy Tears (2022), Alone in a Crowd (2023) and Love You Madly Hate You Badly (2026). His debut entered the Billboard 200 — the flagship US album chart — at No. 14 and topped Billboard's Top Rock & Alternative Albums chart. His single "Life Goes On" reached No. 7 on the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart, and his Robin Schulz collaboration "Miss You" climbed to No. 4 on the Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart in 2022, earning a 2024 BRIT Award nomination for Best International Song (Billboard).

He had described his 2026 album Love You Madly Hate You Badly as the first he made without a character — a note that gives the coffin display at the memorial its own logic. The mannequins in costume were farewells to the personae, not the person.
