Pearl Studio's animated fantasy "All Wishes Come True!" held the top spot at the mainland China box office for the July 24–26 weekend, earning RMB314.8 million ($46.3 million) in its second frame and pushing its cumulative total to $112.5 million, according to Variety.

The film, directed by Mu Zhengyang, is a family-friendly mythological comedy about eight ordinary mortals who combine wit and courage to outsmart deities and become the Eight Immortals — figures from Chinese folklore whose stories have been told for centuries.

Behind it, a familiar name is still pulling crowds. "Kung Fu Soccer," directed by Stephen Chow and produced by Shenzhen Film Studio, took second place with $33.9 million in its third weekend. Its cumulative total now stands at $286.6 million.

Three more films rounded out the top five. Damai Entertainment's sci-fi epic "The Decisive Moment" debuted in third with $6.4 million over the weekend and $8.6 million cumulative including early screenings since its July 25 launch. The film, directed by Zhang Disha and co-written with Hu Xiaoxi, produced by Huang Jianxin, served as the closing film of the Shanghai International Film Festival. Universal's "Obsession" opened in fourth with $4.9 million. Enlight Pictures' "A Part of Me" landed fifth, taking $2.7 million in its second weekend for a $21.6 million running total.

Across all films, the mainland China box office grossed $102.3 million for the weekend. China's 2026 year-to-date revenue stands at $3.15 billion — down 33.6% from the same point in 2025.

What is keeping "All Wishes Come True!" aloft is unusually strong word of mouth for the season. According to audience data cited by Sina Entertainment, the film scored 9.7 on Maoyan, 9.6 on Taopiaopiao, and 8.3 on Douban (a review-aggregation site often treated as China's toughest crowd), leading all new 2026 summer releases in reception. Box-office tracking service Dengta raised its lifetime prediction for the film above RMB 2 billion ($278 million) on two consecutive days as of July 23. The same service noted a rare mid-week uptick on Tuesday, July 21, when the film's daily gross exceeded Monday's — an uncommon pattern that signals audiences are recommending it rather than catching it once and moving on.

For a market down a third year-on-year, a homegrown animated title carrying that kind of momentum is the bright spot distributors have been waiting for.
