Tate McRae Teases a New Era With Posters in Chicago and a Fresh Look on Instagram

Tate McRae is signalling something new. On July 26, the pop singer debuted a minimalist photoshoot on Instagram with the caption "Montreal, Chicago. See u soon," stepping away from the visual style tied to her album So Close to What Billboard. The timing lines up with two of the biggest festival slots of her career: she headlines Osheaga in Montreal on August 1 and Lollapalooza in Chicago on August 2 Billboard.

Posters have also appeared on the streets of Chicago. They feature hand-drawn-style graphics and four different images of McRae, each listing the dates of her Osheaga and Lollapalooza sets. One detail on the Chicago posters caught fans' attention: the numbers "10 1," which many have read as a clue pointing to an October 1 announcement or release. McRae has not confirmed what the numbers mean.

She also shared a TikTok from the same photoshoot, captioned "Hi I'm Tate McRae and ur watching Disney channel" — a nod to the old Disney Channel ident that millennial and Gen Z viewers will recognise instantly Billboard.

The festival bookings themselves are not new news. McRae confirmed her Lollapalooza headlining slot via Instagram on March 17, 2026, writing "Headlining @lollapalooza !!!!!!!! 🫨🫨 can't wait to see u guysss." Lollapalooza 2026 runs July 30 through August 2 at Grant Park in Chicago Instagram.

What makes the campaign stand out is how deliberately it echoes a move McRae made a year ago. During Lollapalooza 2024, she premiered the then-unreleased song "It's ok I'm ok" from the stage — a track that went on to become a single. Fans are now watching for a repeat: a festival premiere that doubles as a rollout's opening move.

McRae's last album cycle gives the teases weight. So Close to What became her first No. 1 on the Billboard 200, the chart that ranks the most-consumed albums in the United States each week. Its lead single, "Sports Car," was a Billboard Hot 100 hit. In 2026, Billboard awarded her the Hitmaker Award at its Women in Music event Billboard.

For now, the new era has a look and a mood but no confirmed release. Billboard reached out to McRae's representatives for comment; she has not addressed the fan theories or confirmed that new music is incoming. The posters, the Instagram post, and the TikTok are all that is on the record — and for a fan base that watched her turn a 2024 festival stage into a single launch, that is already enough to start counting the days to August 1.
