The awards gala takes place on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at the Marriott Burbank. Actress Kambra Potter will emcee the evening, and Leno will sit for an hourlong career-retrospective conversation recorded for The Hollywood Reporter's Awards Chatter podcast. Burbank Mayor Tamala Takahashi will issue a proclamation recognising Leno's impact on the city — a place where the comedian's roots run deep. Leno recorded The Tonight Show at NBC Studios in Burbank for more than two decades, and his celebrated car garage is located in the city.

Burbank, California, is nicknamed the "Media Capital of the World," home to over 1,000 media companies including Warner Bros. Pictures, the Walt Disney Company, and NBC Studios. The festival's choice of honouree ties directly to that identity: Leno is being recognised not just as a television personality but as a fixture of the city's entertainment landscape.

BIFF president Anna Maybury said Leno "represents the very best of the entertainment industry" and credited his contributions to television with shaping "generations of comedy and late-night entertainment."
