Anna Kendrick's upcoming action thriller Embassy has found its U.S. home. MGM+ has acquired American rights to the six-part series, along with rights for Italy, Spain, Belgium, the Netherlands, Brazil, Mexico, Chile, Colombia, and Argentina, as reported by Variety on 28 July 2026.

The show already had a foothold elsewhere. Prime Video secured Embassy for the U.K., Ireland, Canada, France, Australia, and New Zealand, a deal first reported by Deadline in April 2026. Germany's ZDF picked up the rights for its territory. The result is a series carved up across multiple broadcasters and streamers — a common pattern in international television, where a single show is sold territory by territory rather than landing on one global platform.

Kendrick plays Layla, an American diplomat stationed in London. The plot kicks off when armed mercenaries storm the U.S. embassy there, forcing Layla to choose between protecting the U.S. ambassador and exfiltrating a high-value asset — meaning a person whose intelligence value is considered worth the risk of extraction. J.K. Simmons plays the ambassador. Sam Heughan, whose casting was announced in Deadline in January 2026, plays Layla's British ex-fiancé, a former SAS soldier.

Kendrick and Simmons were first announced as cast members on 14 October 2025, per World Screen. The series was created and written by Rom Lotan, with John Strickland and Christian Alvart directing. Production companies AGC Television, Ascendant Fox, and Turbine Studios produced the show, which was filmed on location in Cologne and London. Filming was still in progress as of May 2026, according to Deadline.

For MGM+, the acquisition adds a high-profile title to its growing slate. Michael Wright, global head of MGM+, called Embassy "a cinematic thriller that reinforces MGM+ as a destination for classic storytelling for a modern audience," per Variety. The MGM+ deal was negotiated by Doug Goodkind and Andy Miller on the network's side, with AGC's VP of Legal & Business Affairs Conor McElroy handling the seller's end. AGC International is managing worldwide sales.

The executive producer roster is extensive: Rom Lotan, John Strickland, Hester Ruoff, Bart Ruspoli, Matt Mitchell, Daniel Hetzer, Jakob Neuhausser, Justin Thomson, David Tanner, Stuart Ford, Lourdes Diaz, and Miguel A. Palos Jr.

No premiere date has been announced. With filming still underway as recently as two months ago and a multi-territory rollout across at least three platforms, the scheduling calendar for Embassy is still being assembled. What is locked in is the cast, the creative team, and the geography: a thriller shot in two cities, sold across four continents, and built around a diplomat with an impossible choice.
