Halo: Campaign Evolved launches today — on PS5, Xbox, and PC simultaneously

Halo: Campaign Evolved, a full remake of the original Halo's single-player campaign, launches its Standard Edition today — July 28, 2026 — and for the first time in the franchise's history, a Halo game is available on PlayStation 5 at release alongside Xbox and PC.
The global digital launch is simultaneous, meaning no region gets a head start. Players who bought the Digital Premium Edition have already been playing since July 23, when Early Access opened. Everyone else unlocks the Standard Edition at 8am Pacific Time / 11am Eastern / 4pm UK BST / 5pm CEST on July 28, with Japan, Australia, and New Zealand following at 12am JST / 1am AEST / 3am NZST on July 29. Developed by Halo Studios — the team formerly known as 343 Industries — and published under Microsoft, the game is described on its official store page as a "faithful yet modernized remake" of Halo: Combat Evolved's campaign. That specificity matters: this is the story mode only, not the full original package with its competitive multiplayer.
The platform spread is the real headline. Halo on PlayStation was confirmed last October on the PlayStation Blog, and it arrives on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. On Xbox, the game supports Play Anywhere — meaning a single digital purchase works across both Xbox console and Windows PC — as well as Xbox Cloud Gaming, which streams the game to compatible devices without a download. Subscribers to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass get the Standard Edition included starting July 28. (Xbox Wire)
Pre-orders, which opened after the game's formal reveal at the Xbox Games Showcase on June 7, come with two new Master Chief armor cosmetics at launch. (Xbox Wire)
For a series synonymous with Xbox hardware since the original console's 2001 launch, seeing Master Chief land on a PlayStation the same day he lands on Xbox is the kind of moment that reframes what a "platform exclusive" even means in 2026. Microsoft's gaming strategy under Phil Spencer has steadily widened the tent — individual titles hitting rival consoles, Game Pass as the subscription anchor, and cloud streaming dissolving the line between hardware. Halo: Campaign Evolved is, on paper, a remake of a 25-year-old campaign. In practice, it's the clearest signal yet of how far that strategy has stretched.
VGC's review awarded the game a full five-star rating.
