Meghan Markle and Girl Scouts Toast 'Cookie Queens' at Los Angeles Screening

Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, joined director Alysa Nahmias and a theatre full of Girl Scouts in green vests for an advanced screening of the documentary Cookie Queens at AMC The Grove in Los Angeles on Tuesday, July 28, 2026 (The Hollywood Reporter; People).

After the credits rolled, Markle and Nahmias discussed the film in a conversation moderated by Jessica Radloff (The Hollywood Reporter). Markle had posted on her official Instagram account about joining Nahmias and the Girl Scout participants for the screening (Instagram).

Cookie Queens follows four young Girl Scouts — Olive, Shannon, Ara, and Nikki — as they navigate the pressures and triumphs of cookie-selling season. Nahmias said she interviewed dozens of Girl Scouts before settling on an ensemble of girls from different ages, backgrounds, and socioeconomic situations, each with a story that extended beyond the cookie box (The Hollywood Reporter). She called the film a coming-of-age story exploring girlhood, capitalism, and the economy.

The project has a warm origin story of its own. Nahmias said her children dared her to make a film for all ages, and inspiration struck when she heard about a Girl Scout who was the best salesperson around (The Hollywood Reporter). She then set out to find the girls who would carry the documentary.

Markle and Prince Harry joined the film as executive producers under their Archewell Productions banner, which produced the film in partnership with Beautiful Stories and AJNA Films (The Hollywood Reporter; Facebook/Page Six). When the Archewell team first met about the project, Markle had seen a small teaser and arrived carrying cookies she had baked herself (The Hollywood Reporter).

The film originally premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, where it won an Audience Award (The Hollywood Reporter). Prince Harry and Markle attended the Sundance premiere in Park City, Utah, in January 2026 (Tribune).

At the Los Angeles screening, Markle described the documentary as more than a cookie movie, saying there was not a dry eye in the house at every screening and that it carried meaningful, grounding moments. She pointed to the parents' unwavering commitment to their children as one of its most resonant themes (The Hollywood Reporter). Markle also revealed that Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet had watched Cookie Queens and had a favourite part of the documentary (People).

What gives the screening its charm is the audience itself: Girl Scouts in their green vests, watching four of their own on screen, in a theatre on one of Los Angeles's busiest retail strips. Nahmias set out to make a film for all ages, and on this Tuesday night, the room confirmed she found one.
