Warwickshire have re-signed New Zealand batter Will Young and India left-arm spinner Manav Suthar for the final stretch of the 2025 County Championship season, bolstering their push for a first title since 2012.

The Bears sit third in the top division, level on points with Somerset and five behind leaders and defending champions Nottinghamshire. With the season entering its decisive phase, every result carries title implications.

Young, 33, returns for Warwickshire's final six Championship matches. He previously had a three-game spell at Edgbaston earlier in 2025, averaging 53 with the bat. That cameo clearly left an impression. The New Zealander brings nearly 9,000 first-class runs and 23 Test caps to a batting order that will be without Australia all-rounder Beau Webster, whose time at the club has ended for the season.

Suthar, 23, will be available for the last four games. He played two Championship matches for Warwickshire earlier in the summer, taking 11 wickets with best figures of 5-100 in a draw at Somerset at the end of June. Since then, the left-arm spinner has made his Test debut for India against Afghanistan in July 2025 and been named in India's squad for their two-Test series against Sri Lanka in August.

Warwickshire performance director James Thomas said both players had made "a real impact" during their previous spells. Young, he added, brings experience to the batting line-up, particularly with Webster's departure. Of Suthar, Thomas said he had shown the ability to change a game with the ball as well as contributing crucial runs.

The County Championship is England's first-class cricket competition — the longest and most traditional format of the domestic game, played over four days. Warwickshire last won it outright in 2012, though they claimed the Bob Willis Trophy in the truncated 2020 season.

Young's record speaks for itself: 1,215 runs in Test cricket for New Zealand and a proven appetite for English conditions. For a side chasing down Nottinghamshire's slender lead, a top-order batter who has already shown he can score at Edgbaston is a significant addition.

Suthar's return is arguably the more intriguing piece of business. A 23-year-old left-arm spinner who has just broken into the India Test side and claimed a five-wicket haul on English soil — that is a profile Warwickshire will be eager to deploy as pitches begin to wear through late summer.

The fixture list will dictate how much of an advantage these signings become. But with six games remaining and a five-point gap to close, Warwickshire have given themselves every chance of mounting a serious challenge.
