Apple TV+ Hits All-Time Viewership High as Tim Cook Bows Out

Apple TV+ drew more viewers in the quarter ending June 2026 than in any prior quarter in its six-and-a-half-year history, the company confirmed in its fiscal Q3 2026 earnings report released on 30 July 2026. Apple Newsroom

The streaming milestone landed inside a larger earnings story. Apple's Services division — which bundles the App Store, advertising, AppleCare, music, video and more — posted $30.7 billion in sales, up 12% year-over-year and a new record. Even so, that figure came in below both analysts' forecasts and Apple's own guidance. Every Services category set a June-quarter revenue record, and paid subscriptions across all Services topped 1.5 billion. Deadline

Apple CFO Kevan Parekh named three factors behind the softer-than-expected growth: foreign exchange headwinds, a downturn in mobile gaming on the App Store, and changes to the App Store business model in certain countries. He also pointed to a tough year-over-year comparison created by F1: The Movie — the Joseph Kosinski-directed, Brad Pitt-starring racing film distributed by Warner Bros. in late June 2025, which grossed $190 million domestically and $634 million worldwide. Parekh called it "one of the highest grossing sports films in history," and said its absence in 2026 hit both the June and September quarters. Apple indicated Services growth would continue to moderate in the September 2026 quarter.

The App Store has its own separate legal cloud. The U.S. Supreme Court will hear Apple's appeal in the Epic Games antitrust dispute over the 27% fee Apple charges on external third-party web purchases, with the case expected in the term beginning October 2026.

On the content side, Apple TV+ is riding its strongest awards cycle yet. The platform landed a record 89 Emmy nominations in 2026, leading all networks in both the major drama and comedy series categories. Widow's Bay earned 19 nominations — the most for any new program of the year. Ted Lasso season 4 was set to return the week following the earnings call, alongside titles including Cape Fear, Silo, Sugar, and Widow's Bay itself.

Apple TV+ also completed the EGOT — Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony — faster than any streamer in history, picking up four Tonys in 2026 for the Schmigadoon! Broadway adaptation, including Best Musical. Across its catalogue, the streamer has now amassed more than 850 wins and nearly 3,800 nominations since launch.

Beyond streaming, Apple expanded its Apple Sports app to more than 170 countries and regions ahead of the 2026 World Cup. iPhone and Mac revenue both set June-quarter records.

For Cook, the call was a final bow. The 30 July earnings call was Tim Cook's 90th and last as Apple CEO, with John Ternus named as his successor.

For viewers, the takeaway is simpler. More people are watching Apple TV+ than ever, a pipeline led by Ted Lasso and Widow's Bay is feeding that growth, and the platform's awards momentum keeps pulling in nominations faster than any competitor.
