Vin Diesel says the script for Fast Forever is the best he has read in decades — and that he is still crying over it.

Diesel made the comments in an Instagram reel, picked up by Deadline, Variety and TheWrap on 1 August 2026. The screenplay is by Mike Leslie, whom Diesel credited by name. The franchise's lead producer and star said he and his team spent the past three and a half years trying to craft "the most amazing finale" for the series, whose films have grossed $7 billion worldwide across more than two decades of releases (Deadline).

Fast Forever is scheduled to premiere on 17 March 2028. That puts it squarely in the spring corridor — a release window studios use to get a jump on the summer blockbuster season, when competition for screens tightens.

Before the finale arrives, the franchise is reaching back to its starting line. Diesel encouraged fans to see the original The Fast and the Furious (2001) when it returns to cinemas on 21 August for its 25th anniversary. The re-release gives new audiences a chance to see the film that launched a street-racing B-movie into a globe-spanning action series — one that grew into a tentpole brand (industry shorthand for a franchise reliable enough to anchor a studio's annual slate).

The franchise is also stretching into television. Diesel said NBCUniversal has four TV shows in development drawn from the Fast & Furious world, according to Deadline. No titles, formats or premiere windows were announced.

For fans, the appeal is straightforward: Diesel is framing Fast Forever as a capstone worth the wait, and the 25th-anniversary re-release is a chance to revisit where it all began — on the big screen, where the series has always played best. The $7 billion gross places the Fast & Furious films among the highest-earning franchises in cinema history, alongside the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Star Wars and James Bond.
