US Measles Cases Hit a 35-Year High Midway Through 2026

The United States has reported 2,371 confirmed measles cases in 2026 as of July 30, the highest annual total since 1991 and already more than the 2,289 cases recorded for all of 2025. The milestone, confirmed by CDC data published July 31, was reached just past the midpoint of the calendar year.
The 2026 case count includes 2,355 cases across 45 jurisdictions (states and territories) and 16 among international visitors. Thirty-seven new outbreaks have been reported this year, with 94% of cases (2,219 of 2,371) classified as outbreak-associated — meaning they are linked to a cluster of three or more related cases, the CDC's threshold for declaring an outbreak.
