A new eight-song studio EP from the musical The Real Kyle McCarren has been released on all major streaming platforms, featuring vocals from Jordan Fisher, Norbert Leo Butz and Kate Baldwin (WhatsOnStage; Playbill).

The EP, titled Songs from The Real Kyle McCarren: The Studio EP, arrives ahead of the musical's UK premiere at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe this month. The show will play at Pleasance Courtyard (Forth) from 5 to 30 August at 1.50pm, with a running time of 75 minutes and a 14+ age guideline (Pleasance). The first press performance is scheduled for 10 August (Avalon).

The Real Kyle McCarren follows a character named Andy, who writes a musical about his best friend and bandmate Kyle after Kyle dies suddenly. The book is by Andy Roninson and Sean McVerry, with lyrics by Roninson, McVerry and Sarah Coffey. Roninson and McVerry also produced the EP, which was recorded primarily at Threshold Studios in New York City (WhatsOnStage).

The musical has previously played in New York, including a sold-out run at Joe's Pub — the Public Theater's cabaret venue — in 2025, with a return engagement there in July 2026 (WhatsOnStage; Public Theater). It has been described as a multiple award-winning musical (Public Theater).

The Fringe production is produced by Avalon and co-directed by Lonny Price and Matt Cowart. Price is a multi-Emmy Award-winning and Tony Award-nominated director. The cast and creative team comprises New York City and Broadway actors and musicians (Avalon; West End Best Friend).

Vincent Jamal Hooper plays Liam, described as Kyle's "annoyingly charming British best friend" (Instagram/@therealkylemccarren). WhatsOnStage has named the show a "New Musical to see at the festival" for Edinburgh Fringe 2026 (Instagram/@therealkylemccarren).

The EP's credits extend well beyond its lead vocalists. Mike Roninson, an original bandmate of the real Kyle McCarren, plays bass. Paige Andrews is on drums, with Clerida Eltimé on cello and Maggy Simon on violin. Backing vocals come from Miranda Joan, Melissa McMillan and Christine Cornell. Engineering was handled by Simon Brown, Diana Romualdo, Griffin Brown and Jack Brandon Gray, with mixing by Zeno Pittarelli and mastering by Jack Kennedy. Julia Rangel and Ben Collette provided additional piano engineering (WhatsOnStage).

The presence of Roninson — an original bandmate of the man the show is built around — gives the recording a layer of personal history that studio casts rarely carry. For Fringe-goers weighing a 1.50pm slot at one of the festival's busiest venues, the EP offers an early listen before the cast takes the stage in Edinburgh.
