Sony Pictures has hired Jill Blankenship to write Castle, a medieval action film based on an original idea from Chris Bremner's production company Unknown Quantity, according to Deadline (Deadline).

Plot details are being kept under wraps. What is known is the creative chain: Bremner came up with the concept, and Blankenship will build the screenplay. Bremner produces alongside his partner Jeff Arkuss, who was instrumental in putting the deal together.

For Blankenship, Castle is a door into feature film. She built her career in television, starting on TNT's The Last Ship and in the prolific Berlanti Productions camp — the writer-producer factory run by Greg Berlanti that has supplied a steady pipeline of series to broadcast networks and streamers. She co-created the superhero drama Naomi with Ava DuVernay for The CW and served as its showrunner, the top creative executive who oversees every episode of a series. Her television credits also include Sweet Tooth for Netflix and Daredevil: Born Again for Marvel and Disney+, and she has developed shows for both Amazon and Netflix.

She has one foot already in the feature world: her thriller script Trapped landed on the Black List — the annual industry survey of admired unproduced screenplays — and is set up with Sarah Bremner and Noah Oppenheim's Prologue Entertainment. Blankenship is represented by WME, Kaplan/Perrone, and attorneys Abel Lezcano and Chris Namba.

On the producing side, Chris Bremner is a Sony loyalist. He wrote the studio's Bad Boys sequels Bad Boys for Life (2020) and Bad Boys: Ride or Die (2024), both of which were solid global performers. Unknown Quantity, his production company, was signed to a writing and producing deal with Sony Pictures, and Castle is one of the projects flowing from that arrangement. As a producer, Bremner also has Permission, written by Dan Roe, and You Up, written by Gabe Delahaye, set up at the studio. He and Unknown Quantity are represented by WME, Kaplan/Perrone, and attorneys Greg Slewett and Deb Lintz.

No release date, budget, or additional cast and crew have been announced. The project is at the screenplay stage, which means it is early in the long chain of decisions — script, greenlight, financing, production, release-date strategy — that sits between a writer's first draft and a film on a screen.
