Spotify reached 300 million paying Premium subscribers in the second quarter of 2026, the company confirmed in its Q2 financial results published on August 4. The figure represents a net addition of 7 million subscribers in the three months ending June, up from the 293 million reported at the close of Q1 2026 — and ahead of Spotify's own guidance by 1 million Music Business Worldwide.

The company also posted a total monthly active user base of 777 million, up from 761 million at the end of the previous quarter Variety. On the financial side, Spotify reported Q2 2026 operating income of €655 million and an all-time-high gross margin of 33.4% — gross margin being the share of revenue left after the direct costs of delivering the service, such as royalties paid to rights holders Variety.

Spotify attributed the Premium growth to year-over-year and quarter-over-quarter gains across all regions, along with what it called strong global promotional campaign intake. The company said it saw quarter-over-quarter subscriber increases in Europe, the Rest of World region, Latin America and North America Music Business Worldwide.

Europe remains Spotify's largest Premium market, accounting for 36% of the total subscriber base as of the end of Q2. North America held 25%, Latin America 24%, and the Rest of World category — which covers territories outside those three — made up 15% Music Business Worldwide.

One catalyst stood out in the quarter. Spotify ran a special in-app experience marking its 20th anniversary that nearly 100 million users engaged with in its first six days. The company said the campaign helped drive its biggest single day of subscriber intake on record Music Business Worldwide.

Beyond subscriber numbers, Spotify also launched a new feature called Reserved, which lets Premium-tier superfans reserve concert tickets. Live Nation, the world's largest concert promoter, was confirmed as the launch partner — a move that ties Spotify's subscription base more directly to the live music business Music Business Worldwide.

Co-CEO Alex Norström framed the results in broad terms. "We have a scale that few companies in history have reached, a business that is healthy and compounding, and opportunities only we are positioned to pursue," he said. Co-CEO Gustav Söderström struck a forward-looking note, adding: "We are still in the very early stages of what is possible and will continue to have a high bar for investments" Music Business Worldwide.

For context, Spotify closed Q1 2026 — the quarter ending March — with 293 million Premium subscribers, up 9% year-over-year, and total revenue growth of 14% compared with the same period a year earlier Spotify Newsroom. The jump from 293 million to 300 million in a single quarter adds to a growth trajectory that has now carried the platform past a round-number threshold few subscription services have reached.
