Brittany Snow has joined the cast of The Housemaid's Secret, Lionsgate's sequel to the $400-million-grossing thriller The Housemaid, according to Deadline.

Snow will play Marybeth, an unassuming receptionist at the company run by the husband in the story's central couple, Variety reports. Kirsten Dunst and Paul Anthony Kelly portray the spouses who employ Sydney Sweeney's Millie Calloway — a housekeeper who discovers her employers are harbouring a dark secret behind a locked door.

Paul Feig, who directed the first film, returns to the helm. Sweeney reprises her role as Millie and also produces through her Honey Trap banner, alongside Hidden Pictures' Todd Lieberman, Pretty Dangerous Pictures' Laura Fischer, and Feig himself. Michele Morrone is back as Enzo, his character from the original.

Rebecca Sonnenshine, who adapted the first novel for the screen, returns to write the sequel. The source material comes from Freida McFadden's book series — a trilogy plus a fourth short-story entry that Lionsgate optioned as part of its plan to build a female-driven feature franchise, Deadline reports. McFadden has already written a third novel, The Housemaid Is Watching, giving the studio runway for further instalments.

The first film, released in 2025, grossed $400 million globally against a budget of roughly $35 million, according to Variety — a return that made a sequel inevitable. Lionsgate arrives at this moment in strong form: the studio recently scored its highest-grossing release ever at the global box office with the Michael Jackson biopic Michael, which passed $1 billion.

Cameras roll on The Housemaid's Secret later in 2026, with a release date set for 17 December 2027 — a pre-Christmas corridor that studios favour for audience-heavy adult thrillers. Behind the scenes, Carly Elter and Alex Young executive-produce for Hidden Pictures, Honey Trap's Kaylee McGregor co-produces, and Chelsea Kujawa and Maria Ascanio oversee the project for Lionsgate. Robert Melnik negotiated the deals on behalf of the studio.

Snow's credits span comedy and horror: the Pitch Perfect franchise, Hairspray, John Tucker Must Die, and A24's X. She currently stars in the Netflix series The Hunting Wives, a Lionsgate and 3 Arts production heading into its second season.

What makes the franchise's trajectory notable is the speed of it. The first film opened in 2025, the sequel begins shooting the same year the original proved its legs, and the release calendar already stretches toward a third entry. That is a studio committing early — betting that McFadden's readership and the first film's audience will follow Millie Calloway from one locked door to the next.
