Elvis Costello's Debut 'My Aim Is True' Gets Five-Disc 49th Anniversary Box Set

Elvis Costello's debut album My Aim Is True will be reissued as a five-disc box set on 2 October 2026, via Universal Music Enterprises, packing 104 tracks — 52 of them previously unreleased — across a career-spanning collection. Costello's official website announced the set on 4 August, confirming the October release date. Rolling Stone
The original album was recorded at Stiff Records in 1977 across six four-hour sessions for about £1,000, with Nick Lowe producing and the band Clover backing Costello in the studio. Some members of Clover went on to form Huey Lewis and the News. elviscostello.com
The box set, titled My Aim Is True (49th Anniversary Edition), is organised disc by disc to walk listeners through the album's prehistory, creation and aftermath.
The first disc is a 2026 remaster that fuses the UK and US track listings into a single sequence. The second, subtitled The Blue Print, collects 17 recordings from 1975 and 1976 that predate the album sessions — homemade bedroom tapes and 13 cuts from a 1976 session at the Hope & Anchor studio. Among them is a newly discovered reel that includes an early version of 'Radio Radio' originally known as 'Radio Soul'. Rolling Stone
The third disc, The Stranger in the House, gathers all surviving demos and outtakes from the My Aim Is True sessions. The fourth, Becoming the Attractions, assembles live material from Costello's earliest gigs with the Attractions, the band that would become his longest-running backing group. Rolling Stone
The fifth disc, Covered in Clover, is a previously unreleased reunion show Costello staged in 2007 with Clover — the first time the studio band and the artist revisited the debut's material together. That disc also includes ten performances from a show in Manchester that had never been issued, a concert attended by Dave Robinson, the Stiff Records co-founder who signed Costello. elviscostello.com
To preview the set, Costello shared four early renditions of 'Watching the Detectives,' one of the debut's most enduring songs. Rolling Stone
Costello's official UK shop lists the deluxe box set at £173.99 and an exclusive super deluxe vinyl edition at £199.99. shopuk.elviscostello.com
On the road, Elvis Costello and the Imposters begin their next tour leg on 10 September in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, wrapping up 24 September in Victoria, Canada. Rolling Stone
For fans, this is the most complete picture of Costello's debut ever assembled — from bedroom tapes to a 2007 reunion, with more than fifty unreleased tracks in between.
