The Atlanta Falcons have agreed to a three-year contract extension with Bijan Robinson worth up to $75 million, making him the highest-paid running back in NFL history.

The deal includes $51 million guaranteed and carries a base value of $66.75 million — an average of $22.25 million per year, the highest annual figure ever for the position, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter (Atlanta Falcons). At its maximum value with incentives, the extension pays Robinson $25 million per season. The contract runs through 2030.

Robinson had been sitting out the first week of Falcons training camp, including the team's first day in pads, in what amounted to a "hold-in" — a player attending camp but declining to practice while negotiations are finalized. That quiet pressure tactic ended with a deal that resets the market for running backs.

It also clears a notable bar. Philadelphia's Saquon Barkley had been the league's highest-paid running back at $20.6 million per year, a figure he reached on a two-year, $41.2 million extension signed in March 2025 (NFL.com). Robinson's average clears Barkley's by nearly $1.7 million annually.

The production backs up the price tag. Robinson led the NFL with 2,298 yards from scrimmage last season and scored 11 touchdowns. He finished fourth in the league with 1,478 rushing yards and added 820 receiving yards — a dual-threat combination so rare that only one other player in the modern era has matched it: Steven Jackson, who posted at least 1,400 rushing and 800 receiving yards in a single season back in 2006 (The Guardian).
