Richard Madden to Star in Hospital Thriller 'Trauma' for Prime Video and Paramount+

Richard Madden will lead Trauma, a new thriller series headed to Amazon Prime Video and Paramount+, according to an exclusive report from Variety.
Madden plays Jim Marchant, a former Royal Marines medic who has retrained as an ER doctor. The story drops Marchant into a London hospital after terrorists seize the building and take the Prime Minister hostage mid-surgery. The setup pits a combat-trained doctor against an armed siege — a premise that sits squarely in the action-thriller lane Madden has occupied before.
Fans of the BBC One-Netflix political thriller Bodyguard will hear echoes. In that six-episode series, Madden played David Budd, a British Army veteran battling post-traumatic stress disorder while assigned to protect a politician (WSWS). Trauma trades the close-protection detail for a hospital under siege, but the DNA is familiar: a military past colliding with a civilian crisis.
The series was brokered as a co-production between Lionsgate Television and 42 Management & Production. Lionsgate holds a minority stake in 42, meaning the two companies are already financially linked — a relationship that can streamline a deal from pitch to screen.
Geoff Bussetil created Trauma and will write it. Daniel Syrkin is on board to direct and executive produce. Madden will also executive produce, adding a producing credit to his lead role. Behind them, 42's Ben Pugh and Ben Cavey serve as executive producers, Chrissy Skinns produces, and 42's Chris Kennedy co-produces.
On the acquisition side, Hannah Blyth — head of content acquisition for TV at Prime Video UK/Ireland — picked up the series for Amazon. Jane Wiseman, head of originals for Paramount+, and Scott Herbst, EVP and head of scripted development at Lionsgate Television, round out the executive roster named in the deal.
The split is territorial. Prime Video will air Trauma in the U.K. and Ireland. Paramount+ will handle every other market. Cross-platform co-productions of this kind let two streaming services share costs while each controls a distinct region — a structure that has become more common as platforms look to spread the financial risk of high-end scripted drama.
Madden is a familiar face to both services' subscribers. He starred in Amazon's spy series Citadel and has Netflix's upcoming Trinity on his slate. His breakout role was Robb Stark on Game of Thrones, and he won a Golden Globe for Bodyguard. Film credits include Eternals, Cinderella, Rocketman and 1917.
No episode count or release date has been announced.
